Better than a steak

When the boys go to the gym to workout they come home craving protein to replenish their tired muscles.  I made these Grilled Steak Burgers for lunch one day when they returned from the gym and they hit the spot as post workout fuel.  In the words of my son, they were "better than normal hamburgers."  These steak burgers took a little extra work but they were well worth it.

Grilled Steak Burgers
8 Tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 1/2 pounds 90% lean ground beef
4 hamburger buns

Steak Sauce
2 Tablespoons tomato paste
2/3 cup beef broth
1/3 cup raisins
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
2 Tablespoons dijon mustard
2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Melt butter in skillet.   Add garlic, onion powder and salt.  Cook 1 min.  Pour all but 1 T. butter into large bowl.  Cool.

For steak sauce:  Cook tomato paste in skillet until darkened.  Stir in broth, raisins, soy, mustard, vinegar and Worcestershire.  Simmer 5 min.  Process sauce in blender until smooth.

Add ground beef and soy to cooled butter in bowl.  Knead gently until well combined.   Shape meat into 4 patties.  Brush burgers with steak sauce before grilling.

Combine remaining 1 T. butter with 1 T. steak sauce.  Brush on buns then toast cut side down until golden.

Serve the steak burgers with the remaining steak sauce.

The boys were feeiling very muscular while they ate their steak burgers.

Bon Appetit!
